Denaise Seals established Slingshot Video in Washington, DC in 1986. The multimedia production company provides video documentation, media packages and arts education programming to area artists and art facilities. In 2005 Denaise developed and presented “Animation for Kids” for the Chevy Chase Community Center in Washington, DC. The introductory media production class blends media literacy, visual arts, and technology education. Through the creation of optical toys and flipbooks participants (unsuspectingly) incorporate; Math, the Arts, Motor Skills, Reading & Writing and Physics.

The role of instructor was a natural fit for Denaise and in 2006, MEDIA SAVVY was born. MEDIA SAVVY, the arts education arm of Slingshot Video, was established to provide video production workshops for would be/could be artists ages 7-70. MEDIA SAVVY has presented FREE workshops and classes to hundreds of students in venues ranging from the public library, community fairs, the Boys and Girls Club and film festivals to name a few.

In 2006 Denaise developed and instructed MEDIA SAVVY: a video production workshop for teens. The program teaches participants the increasingly important skill of knowing how to read and understand media through the design and production of a Commercial and Public Service Announcement. The 8-week program received an Arts Education Projects Grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

The Commission has also awarded MEDIA SAVVY Small Projects Program grants for MEDIA SAVVY: UNPLUGGED and a Folk and Traditional Arts Grant for it’s coverage of the DC Caribbean Carnival in which two teams of Jr. Videographers and photographers were trained and assigned to cover the 15th Annual Parade in Washington, DC. The children conducted interviews and captured the day’s pomp and celebration.

Denaise is especially proud of her 15-year plus association with Dance Place, Washington’s home base for Professional dance performance and training. In addition to being an active dance class member, Denaise has collaborated with Dance Place on their annual festivals of dance and music. She documents master classes, outreach programs and concerts. Her media presentations have been used in fundraising & grant packages, orientation programs and in studio marketing & promotion.
